So this isn’t really about taxes, it just starts out that way.
My taxes have been crazy for the last few years.
I was in real estate investing and in the big picture, it was an amazing thing my wife and I did. I worked from home for a few years and could go on vacation on a whim.
The reality was there were maybe two of those vacations and while I liked what I did some of the time, it wasn’t what I was cut out to do. We helped a lot of people, we made just enough money to survive and we worked hard all the time.
Once my wife was tiling the floor to our duplex while I was covered in mud trying to dig a french drain in the rain, close to midnight in the hood (next to Lake Como) and I just looked at her and said this isn’t what we were meant to be doing. So we stopped.
Sorry, this wasn’t meant to be about real estate either.
So we washed our hands of real estate and pretty much gave away our last property last year which made this year’s taxes ridiculous. More than that it was something I was dreading to even deal with.
But the thing is I stuck with it and now it’s done!
That brings me to today’s actual lesson. Sometimes in life, you have this thing that you make huge in your mind and just the thought of it is an incredible burden. But once you do it usually isn’t as bad as you thought and it feels amazing to have completed the task.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
So whatever it is you have weighed over your head just get started and stop worrying about it.
