One for my Pommes…

Have I written about cider yet?

I just did a search on my blog and it only showed up only once. So begins the tale of my relationship with cider.

Let me tell you a story:

I never liked the taste of beer. I just couldn’t get into it. So in school, I probably always came off as a high roller with my 10 dollar drinks. Even at house parties, I would bring top-shelf vodka and cranberry juice or the fixings for an Amaretto Sour.

Later on, in my drinking career, I would try a beer as the last resort but it was never my favorite.

Then one day we went to happy hour at Finn McCool’s and my life changed. For the BETTER! For there I was introduced to Woodchuck Apple Cider.

Now, this was 10 years ago, and apple cider wasn’t nearly as prevalent as it is today.

Sure, I had heard of it. I knew that the Amish liked to drink fermented apple juice after a barn raising. But how normal men obtained this divine nectar was anyone’s guess.

Now my cup runneth over with this delectable drink. As I write this I imbibe an Angry Orchard Elderflower.

Recently I was asked by a beer-quaffing coworker what my favorite ciders are (for those looking to dive into the scene).

First I would say BJ’s Brewhouse has an amazing Berry Burst Cider. Be warned some people I have drank with, claim it tastes like cough syrup. However, they obviously have taste buds that can’t really distinguish between flavors.

Secondly, I would recommend Woodchuck Amber. It is really a toss between that and Stella Artois Cidre.

Other amazing ciders you should try are Woodchuck Raspberry and Eastciders Gold Top.

So if you don’t want to break the bank and thought beer was your only recourse to overpriced mixed drinks but couldn’t stand a pungent pilsner, know that naturally, gluten-free cider awaits you!
