Thunder

Fifteen years ago, the band Nickleback was the butt of many jokes. But I submit to you, that there was never a more ridiculous band that gained popularity, than Imagine Dragons. Every time I would hear them, I would involuntarily go off on a rant about how dumb their songs were or how absurd their band name was.

The difference between them and Nickelback was, while I didn’t care for Nickelback and would change the station if they came on the radio, I never vented about them. I would simply listen to something else. In my karaoke heyday, my boss said he heard “Rockstar” and thought about me. I shrugged it off like he hadn’t lumped me in with a bunch of toolbags.

With Imagine Dragons, I would ignore them when I could, but would also get worked up and immersed in my negative feels about them.

I really leaned into it.

The thing was, I had a coworker that heard my tirade, and knowing how it bothered me, would play Imagine Dragons “Thunder” every time she could in my presence.

With Imagine Dragons being the focus of this blog post, I assure you that they will show up in my life for the next week above the average amount. They aren’t talentless hacks. I personally just don’t care for their music.

But the point is, the pain I feel is all in my mind. My focus should not be hating on this band. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

Even me writing this is a marketing campaign for them if you think about it.

So what is there in your life that you are focused on the wrong thing? For you, it might not be Nickleback, Imagine Dragons, or Golden Corral. It could be Joe Biden. It might have been Donald Trump.

“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”

― Mother Teresa

How can you flip the script in your life and praise something positive rather than dwell on something negative?

Maybe don’t dread working out but be grateful for how you feel afterward?

Learn that it’s not good to dwell on that annoying coworker, focus on the cool people you know at work.

Don’t think about Jason’s Deli Catering, think instead about Jason’s Deli Salad Bar.

There is always something good that will change your perspective about life if you let that be your focus. And when you focus on the good, the good will blossom.

Let me know in the comments below how you can make a negative into a positive by changing your perspective.

Birthdays was the worst days
Now we sip Champagne when we thirsty
Uh, damn right, I like the life I live
‘Cause I went from negative to positive

Sorry about you having to give up (let go of) your shirts for so little, but just imagine the joy of the person who will be receiving your beloved items and it kind of pays for itself.

This is such a good reminder. I try to enjoy my time with the coworkers the feed my soul and ignore the ones that don’t. I also try to listen to positive affirmations, and give positive affirmations as much as possible! It can be annoying to some and they might think I’m not genuine, but it’s on my heart and real!
